Fully Known and Loved

Devotional by Marissa Syzonenko

“If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me, and the light around me will be night” —
even the darkness is not dark to you.
The night shines like the day; darkness and light are alike to you.
For it was you who created my inward parts;you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I will praise you because I have been remarkable and wondrously made.
Your works are wondrous,and I know this very well.
My bones were not hidden from you when I was made in secret,
when I was formed in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw me when I was formless;
all my days were written in your book and planned before a single one of them began.
God, how precious your thoughts are to me; how vast their sum is!
If I counted them, they would outnumber the grains of sand;
when I wake up, I am still with you.”

Psalm 139:11-18 CSB

Do you ever feel alone? Misunderstood? Forgotten? Neglected? It is one of our deepest needs as humans to be fully known and loved. It is the creator of the universe, the maker of the heavens and the Earth, who fully knows every part of you. There is not a single part of you that is hidden from Him. Psalm 139 says that even the dark is not dark to Him. The parts of ourselves we tend to hide away and keep from everyone else he has full access to. Our thoughts and our feelings, our deepest secrets. This can sound scary, to know someone other than you is privy to your most private inner workings and thoughts. But, it turns into something beautiful as we remember Jesus.

As we look forward to Christmas in just a few short days we can remember the amazing birth of Jesus Christ. God sent Jesus to this Earth already knowing every part of you. Psalm 139 says “Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all my days were written in your book and planned, before a single one of them began.” Before you were even a thought on anyone’s mind, God sent Jesus to this Earth for YOU. Knowing every sin you would ever commit, knowing every thought you would ever have, knowing you more than you would ever know yourself, Jesus was born and died for you. Verse 18 says “...when I wake up, I am still with you.” No matter where you have been in the darkness, you can awake in the light of Jesus Christ, being fully known and fully loved. No longer alone, misunderstood, forgotten, or neglected. Jesus is with you. He understands your every thought. He remembers you every second of the day. He cared for you more than there are grains of sand on this planet.

So, consider what it would look like to be open with Jesus about your most private thoughts and hidden sins. The truth is that he already knows them. Can you invite him into those places? Wake up and see him that Christ is with you! Thank Jesus today for knowing you fully and completely, and still coming to earth to save you
